Chinese new year : the year of monkey!

 

Chinese New Year is coming and tens of millions of people set off to return to their home towns to celebrate the biggest event and most important of the year with their families.

According to tradition they should meet with parents, relatives and friends to spend together at least the first four days of celebration. It is used to exchange small gifts to wish good luck before going to the table. 
In these days China turns red, the color of good luck and prosperity for the coming year.
The red lanterns including fireworks and lion dance, light the streets to celebrate together, as symbol of prosperity and longevity.
The lion  and the dragon scare evil away as well as  negative influences and welcome the new year.
The date for celebration is based on the new moon : the Chinese New Year falls on the second new moon after the winter solstice.
Each year is associated with a zodiac sign in a cycle of 12 years. This year will be the year of the Monkey characterized by creativity and ingenuity,  it will start the 8th February 2016 and ends 27 January 2017.
The sign of the monkey is positioned 9th among the 12 animals of the Chinese zodiac .
